Disaster preparedness for SHTF or everyday calamities is often botched up by beginner mistakes that put our long term food storage at risk. Many of us have gone to use our flour, beans or rice to find a host of unwanted guests throwing a party in our food. Rice Weevils, Flour Beetles, Meal Moths and the like have definitely elicited a couple eeeews and yucks in my household. We are about to show you the 5 FULLPROOF WAYS TO PROTECT & STORE LONGTERM FOOD STORAGE FOREVER. With a video walking you thru the steps posted at the end.
1 ) GLASS CANNING JARS - QUART or 1/2 GALLON SIZE
Using these wonderful things will allow you to have rodent proof storage containers, & when protected properly will be sturdy and unlikely to easily break. These receptacles will allow you to store you beans, rice & flours for 10, 20, 30 years & far beyond.
2 ) HOT DRY CANNING PREPARATION -
Placing your dry items in the glass jars with NO LIDS ON TOP and placing on cookie sheet in an oven @ 225 degrees for 2 hours will kill almost all if not all eggs, bugs or bacteria in & around your food storage items. Remove from oven, wipe rim with a damp cloth & place a canning lid & rim on top. Sit on a towel on the counter for a few hours until the pressure seal clicks down. You now have solid bug & rat proof storage for 30+ years
Placing your dry items in the glass jars with CANNING LID & RING ON TOP and placing on cookie sheet in a freezer for 5 DAYS will kill all eggs, bugs & bacteria in & around your food storage items. Remove from freezer, wipe rim with a damp cloth & place a canning lid & rim on top. You now have solid bug & rat proof storage for 30+ years
Many people will get to this option & just use the VACUMMESEALER with the WIDE MOUTH ADAPTER. Which you can do but it may not get out 100% of the oxygen. That could potentially foster mold or bacterial growth. When placing 1 -300cc Oxygen Absorber in the top of the jar and then vacumme sealer any oxygen missed will be withdrawn by the absorber.
Once you have chosen your processing method, make sure to place your jars in a place where they won't clink & clank around. Some choose to put a large thick rubber band around the center of each jar to provide additional support. Place in a cupboard, pantry or root cellar where the temperature will be cool & constant.
