7 WAYS TO GET WATER IN A DISASTER

The basic focus for survival in a DISASTER, SHTF or WROL situation boils down to 5 different topics.

These topics or necessities are  #1 WATER, #2 FOOD, #3 SHELTER, #4 PROTECTION, #5 POWER

In todays blog we will be discussing the all important WATER. We will talk about ways to find it, store it and filter it.Your sources of water should include but are not be limited to :

#1 YOUR PERSONAL STOCKPILE - FEMA and the AMERICAN RED CROSS both suggest that all families should have a minimum of 1 gallon of water per person per day for at least a 72 hour period.  Now as you see in this statement  there are the words minimum and at least, this mean to be truly prepared and ready for anything that comes you should have MORE. Store containers in a cool dark place. DON'T store in direct sunlight. Pick up a few cases of bottled water, a few 55 gallon barrels with a hand pump or maybe even installing a stock pond on your piece of survival retreat property. Wells are always an added plus!

#2 LAKES, RIVERS & POOLS - Right now when everything is fine and there is no disaster at hand scope out all local rivers and lakes within a 1-5 mile radius of your home or bug out location.  Ooooh that sounds hard, difficult, impossible.  NOT!!  Get on Google Maps and find your address, then zoom out slowly.  You will be able to see all surrounding Pools, Rivers & Lakes.  Once you have located these walk to them or by them, find the shortest routes and alternate routes.  In an emergency you will be ready.

#3 WATER HEATERS - Yes, water heaters are an excellent source of large amounts of water.  Each tank is usually 29-50 Gallons and almost every house in America has one.  Learn how to drain them, this should be easy to do since you should drain your water heater every six months to prevent calcium, scale and lime build up.

#4 TOILET TANKS - These wonderful receptacles contain 1-3 gallons of water depending on the size. Drink up this could give you 1-5 days of survival in an unbearable situation.

#5 RAIN BARRELS - Start from 5 gallons to 1,000 gallons, these wonderful contraptions will give you endless possibilities and the ability to expand as large as you need. Water your plants, use as shower water or filter well for drinking water. There are many designs, books and videos on this.  Here is an example of 1 that you can assemble in 20 minutes and only spend $5 doing it.

#6 ATMOSPHERIC WATER GENERATORS - Water From Air, Literally. A setup that includes dehumidification as low as 30% and still producing water, multiple filtration systems and a large storage container. My finance and I recently were pulled thru a small disaster of our own when our water was cut off for quite some time due to broken water pipes on our block.  With our AWG we had cooking and drinking water as well as water to wash hands and brush teeth.  A PREPPERS' MIRACLE!

#7 WATER FILTRATION - Water filtration knowledge is a must, take all of these sources with a wealth of basic filtration knowledge and you will never go thirsty or want for adequate sanitation.  Filtration methods to research are :
     A) A Charcoal(Carbon), Sand & Gravel Filter
     B) UV Filtration
     C) Iodine
     D) Boiling Water
     E) Solar or Heat Distillation
     F) Bleach or buy Calcium Hypochlorite to filter 1,000s of gallons
